India Signs Mandatory GMO Labeling into Law

TheIntelHub.com | Paving the way for other nations to introduce similar legislation and inform consumers what they’re really putting into their mouths, the labeling of products containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs) within the nation of India is now mandated by law. The country’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs makes declared in a June 5, 2012 notice that all GMO-containing packaged foods must be labeled by January 1, 2013 or face legal repercussions.

Each package containing GM ingredients will clearly be labeled directly on the prime real estate of the package as ‘GM’. A warning that many heads of organizations and even bodies within the Indian government are praising for its ability to inform individuals as to what they are really feeding their family.

6 Reasons GMO Labeling Will Pass in Washington State

Alternet.org | On Jan. 4, activists in Washington State will deliver approximately 300,000 signatures to the state legislature to guarantee that a mandatory GMO labeling Initiative, I-522, will be on the ballot in November. Initial polling shows that Washington state voters will likely pass this ballot initiative, no matter how much money the biotech industry and large food corporations put into an anti-labeling campaign.

Giant biotech and junk food corporations, joined by major food processors and supermarket chains, poured more than $46 million dollars into a vicious dirty tricks campaign to defeat California’s Prop 37, a citizens ballot initiative that would have required mandatory labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in food ingredients. Their tactics included a relentless barrage of TV and radio ads falsely claiming GE food labels would raise grocery prices, hurt family farmers, and enrich trial lawyers. They unleashed “scientific” testimonials manufactured by phony front groups, and they mailed counterfeit voter guides.

Anti-GMO Comments Flood Cheerios Facebook Page

Infowars.com | When the GMO Inside group asked its Facebook followers to go to the Cheerios Facebook page and comment about the company’s use of genetically-modified ingredients in the kid-friendly cereal, the Cheerios Facebook page got flooded with negative remarks.

In fact, General Mills, the makers of Cheerios, removed an app on the Facebook page that allowed users to create messages about what Cheerios meant to them because people were creating messages that said things like “Poison” and “Deception.” That can’t be what General Mills was hoping to find. All of the comments made with the app have been removed from the Facebook page, but regular comments, like the one below, are still there.

Costa Rica Now Battling Monsanto Over GMO Corn

Infowars.com |  With the exception of about 1,000 acres of land that have been devoted to the cultivation of transgenic crops for research purposes — these include cotton, soy beans, bananas, and pineapples — the Central American nation of Costa Rica, which is known for its bio-diverse agricultural heritage and stunning landscape, is essentially free of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in its native food supply. But the world’s most evil company, Monsanto, is once again trying to destroy this by quietly ushering in a variety of GM corn that Costa Ricans have been working feverishly in recent days to block from being approved.

As reported by El Financiero and relayed by the Costa Rica Star, massive public outcry against Monsanto’s GM corn has thus far been successful in preventing the nation’s regulatory bodies from officially approving Monsanto’s request to allow between two and five acres of its GM corn to be planted on Costa Rican soil. D & PL Seeds Ltd., a subsidiary of Monsanto International, had reportedly first requested permits for the plantings back in November, and the National Biosafety Technical Commission (CTNBio), along with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, was set to make a final decision on the matter before the end of the year.

USDA Recommends Organic Farmers "Self-Insure" against GMO Contamination

ca.news.yahoo.com | Organic growers and food safety advocates on Tuesday condemned an advisory report to the Agriculture Department claiming its recommendations would be costly for farmers who want to protect their conventional crops from being contaminated by genetically modified (GMO), also known as genetically engineered (GE), varieties.

The groups were responding to a report submitted Monday afternoon to the U.S. Department of Agriculture by a committee assigned by USDA with studying how best biotech agriculture could "co-exist" with organic and conventional agriculture.

"Of particular concern in the report is the recommendation that organic and non-GE conventional farmers pay to self-insure themselves against unwanted GE contamination," said a statement by the National Organic Coalition.

dailymail.co.uk | Rats fed a lifelong diet of one of the bestselling strains of genetically modified corn suffered tumours and multiple organ damage, according to a controversial French study published today.

Scientists said the results raised serious questions about the safety of GM foods and the assurances offered by biotech companies and governments.

The first lifetime trials involving rats fed on GM corn found a raised incidence of breast tumours, liver and kidney damage.

FDA Approves Drug Therapy Created from GM Plants

Infowars.com | Genetically modified foods are dangerous to human health. Consumption of them leads to acute organ failure. Currently, countries and communities are fighting against GM food; demanding that they be labeled in grocery stores and that their production be halted in certain countries because of their devastating effects on the human population and the environment.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has now approved a pharmaceutical drug that was derived from a genetically engineered planet cell.

This marks the continued relationship between genetic engineers and Big Pharma. And the profit margins could turn out to be quite substantial for both.

Monsanto Threatens To Sue Vermont over GMOs

Infowars.com | Things are heating up on the genetic engineering front in the state of Vermont, where an overwhelming 96 percent of Vermonters vehemently support “right to know” legislation that mandates full disclosure of genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) on food labels. But according to Ronnie Cummins from the Organic Consumers Association (OCA), Monsanto is now threatening to sue the state of Vermont should it dare to pass such legislation, which has stalled it in committee.

H.722, also known as the Vermont Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act, would require any food product that contains GMOs to be labeled as such. It would also prohibit GMO-containing foods from being labeled “all natural” or “naturally grown,” which is quite common today, including even on some food products sold at health food grocers.
