I can't help but laugh each time I read something that our vice president has to say. This guy can't help but stick his foot in his mouth whenever he talks. His latest statements about the fact that we really have no real need for guns to protect ourselves is based more on his personal opinions than real facts.
As I have no reason to debate with those that choose not to keep firearms for themselves for whatever reason they choose, I would think that any reasonable person would also allow me my RIGHT to protect myself, or my family, the way that I want too, not how someone else thinks I should.
As Biden said in an interview for CBS, “It’s important that people be put in a position where their Second Amendment rights are protected, but that they also don’t, as a consequence of the laws, unintendedly put themselves in harm’s way,”
This is fine and I do agree with Biden in that context of what he said to some extent, although the way he said it is pretzel talk.
But here is the kicker. Biden went on to say this. “The idea that there’s this overwhelming additional security in the ownership and carrying concealed and deadly weapons… I think it’s the premise, not the constitutional right, but the premise that it makes people safer is one that I’m not so sure of.”
OK, let's use this part of what he said and apply it directly to him. I bet when Biden goes anywhere public, those men that escort him are not just a bunch of men that are not carrying weapons. I never have heard of the secret service escorts not carrying lethal force to protect their charges. That would be ridiculous to say or think because of reality in this world.
Of course, the average person is not in his position, and does not have people stalking them for nefarious reasons in most cases, I concede. But does that make it any less of a reason not to have protection for yourself and your family. Of course not.
Let's use another example. A woman that is very attractive, is aware that there are certain types of men that would hurt them or rape them just because they can. One night this woman is at home alone, and she does not know that she has been being watched by one of these types of men. All of a sudden, the door comes crashing in and it's 3 am in the morning. Her attacker weighs about 250 pounds, whereas she only weighs about 120 pounds. Who do you think is going to win this battle if it is hand to hand conflict? Naturally, the man is going to be able to overwhelm her just by his strength in most cases.
Now let's change this scenario. The same thing happens except the fact that this same woman keeps a firearm next to her bed, and she knows how to use it. Now the advantage has just turned the opposite direction. She has the ability to defend herself against overwhelming odds if it were just brute strength against brute strength.
Now don't get me wrong. There are some women out there that are pretty tough, and they are trained in self defense. Her odds are much better than if she had no training at all. But the reality is that her attacker is probably carrying a weapon in most cases because of the intimidation factor alone. He may never have intended to use the weapon, but just the thought that he can, is enough to make most woman submit to him against their will.
Now let's take it to another possible scenario. This woman is walking
down the street at night. The same criteria applies here too. Because
that is the whole reason why she would want to carry a concealed weapon
in the first place. It is because there are real bad people in the real
world. Statistics only prove that most people that carry concealed
weapons legally, do not shoot other people. But the media would have you think
that it is like the old west, where anyone carrying concealed legally is going to
just shoot up the place. I would like the opponents to CCW to show
actual statistical proof to support their argument. The reason they
never use that figure is because it would show overwhelmingly that the
odds of being attacked by a person carrying concealed legally support
gun advocates every time.
The point of this is that "any" weapon, whether it is a gun, a baseball bat, or a knife is going to make any attacker think twice before doing a bad deed. Unless he is the only one with a weapon, or she has a knife, and he has a gun. Guns are just another "tool" that can keep one at a "safe" distance from an attacker. They level the field against a more powerful aggressor too. Plus, depending on the type of firearm and its power, and proper placement of the shot, it can be very good at stopping an attacker immediately.
It would be nice if we had a world where everyone was nice, and nobody ever attacked anyone else. It would be nice if nobody had nuclear weapons too. But that is not the real world that we live in. The reason we have nuclear capabilities is to be a deterrent against possible overwhelming odds. That's an argument you never hear in any media, including gun advocates. The same thing applies to all weapons, whether it is a gun, or a nuclear missile.
So Mr. Joe Biden, next time you want to try and say that there is no real reason, that there is no proof that guns carried concealed really protect an individual, try going out in public without any armed escorts, or any weapons backing you up, or traveling in an armored car to protect you from those that wish to do you harm, even though you have never personally known or done anything to them personally that you are aware of. Anyone reasonable would agree that doing that is insane or stupid. But if you feel that adamant about it, then you should prove your point and lead by example. Go ahead and use yourself as a human Guinea pig to show us there is no need for personal protection at all.
Because as far as I am concerned, what makes your right to protection any more important than mine? Your stature only feeds YOUR ego, not mine.
And for the rest of you that choose not to keep and bear arms, That is YOUR RIGHT, unless you don't live in America. But please don't try to tell me that I can't, because that is infringing upon MY RIGHT!
Long live the Republic of the United States of America!
